OmniFocus 4.9 for All Platforms

OmniFocus 4.9 adds support for Siri AI, optional new date parsing assistance via Apple Intelligence, and a range of new and updated Shortcuts actions. Alongside full compatibility with macOS 27 Golden Gate, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27, this release fine-tunes design elements throughout OmniFocus and introduces a new option for customizing the behavior of the Perspectives Bar on iPhone.

OmniFocus 4.9 requires macOS 15.2, iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, visionOS 2.2 and watchOS 11.2.

• OS Compatibility — OmniFocus has been updated for compatibility with macOS 27 Golden Gate, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.
• Apple Intelligence Date Parsing (Beta) — OmniFocus can now optionally consult the on-device Apple Intelligence model when the built-in date parser is unable to resolve an entered date, improving support for natural language date input. (This beta feature requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device and can be turned on for all synced devices which support Apple Intelligence in the Dates & Times Settings.)
• Siri AI (Beta) — OmniFocus has been updated to support Siri AI reminder functionality on OS 27, enabling rich new integration with Siri and Apple Intelligence. Siri now knows about “reminders” in OmniFocus (i.e. actions and Inbox items), “lists” (i.e. projects) which contain reminders, and any “groups” (i.e. folders) that lists have been organized into. Siri can assign and edit reminder due dates, flags, repeat schedules, and notes and image attachments in OmniFocus. (Requires OS 27 & Siri AI Beta access.)
  • Reminders Integration: Create and take action on reminders in OmniFocus with Siri. Move a hand-written to do list into OmniFocus with Visual Intelligence, or ask Siri to break a goal down into actionable steps.
  • Enhanced Spotlight: Ask Siri about content in your OmniFocus database. Remaining and recently completed items in your OmniFocus database are now indexed by Spotlight, allowing Siri to summarize the actions you’ve completed this week, or tell you what items you should consider working on soon.
  • On-screen Awareness: Take action on items you’re currently viewing in OmniFocus. With on-screen awareness, you can ask Siri to flag the items you’re viewing, or draft an email summarizing the upcoming work displayed in a perspective.
  • Suggestions: After interacting with OmniFocus via Siri, Siri may learn that OmniFocus is your preferred reminder application, and Mail and Messages can suggest creating reminders in OmniFocus based on context from a conversation.
• Shortcuts — New and updated Shortcuts actions:
  • New Edit Action Shortcuts action.
  • New Delete Actions Shortcuts action.
  • Updated Omni Automation Script and Omni Automation Plug-In Shortcuts actions support Spotlight integration on macOS 26 and newer and other recent OS integrations (legacy variants of these Shortcuts actions remain available).
  • Add Action Shortcuts action now supports rich text in notes and repeat schedule configuration.
  • Find Projects Shortcuts action is no longer in beta (known issues have been addressed).
• Widgets — Interactive status circles can now be turned off.
• Widgets — Additional widget sizes are now supported.
• Omni Automation — Added API that looks up available API by searching the Omni Automation API documentation.
• Connected Folders — Linked Folder functionality has been replaced by Connected Folders.
• Forecast — Updated appearance of Forecast sidebar calendar to better match Liquid Glass design elements.
• Localizations — Completed extensive localization updates, including fixes for date translations, widget setup text, and Perspective Bar menus.
• Perspectives Bar — Perspectives Bar is now displayed as a sidebar on macOS 27 Golden Gate and iPadOS 27.
• Repeats — “Only on: Days of Week” monthly repeat schedules now support “Next to Last” and “Day” options.
• Notifications — Custom notifications are now correctly titled.
• Shortcuts — Shortcuts actions now correctly check for an OmniFocus license.
• Shortcuts — Shortcuts which edit dates now do a better job of preserving existing times or respecting the default time setting when no time or midnight is specified.
• Shortcuts — Improved reliability of “Find Actions” beta Shortcuts action.

• Control Center — Previously configured Open Perspective controls have reset to default state. This is an unfortunate side effect of a working around an underlying OS compatibility issue - we apologize for the inconvenience!
• App Layout — Addressed inconsistent display of vertical divider line between Perspectives Bar and sidebar or outline content.
• Notes — Applying a text style to a selection that matches the default text style no longer discards applied style.
• Shortcuts — “Find Perspectives” Shortcuts action no longer fails on macOS 26 and newer.

• Documentation — Updated Edit Menu and Keyboard Shortcuts reference manual chapters.
• Notifications — Item titles are now displayed ahead of notification type and date.
• Forecast — Launching OmniFocus with an item selected in Forecast no longer initially shows incorrect outline order.
• Forecast — Completed repeat instances are now placed in the correct order when “Keep Sorted” is turned off.
• Repeats — “Catch up automatically” setting is now appropriately applied to completed instances of a repeating item.

• Forecast — Selection now remains on completed instance when a repeating item is completed in Forecast.
• OS Compatibility — Updated crash catcher for compatibility with newer versions of macOS.
• Repeats — Addressed a hang that could occur completing repeating items after repeated undo actions.

OmniFocus 4.8.12 is a minor update focused on bug fixes.

• Custom Perspectives — Improved perspective rule editing reliability, addressing scenarios in which it previously appeared that a rule change needed to be made twice before it took effect.
• Forecast — Improved reliability of Forecast sort order when both calendar events and an item due on a prior date are displayed for a specific day.
• Forecast — Fixed a bug that could cause inaccurate “Keep Sorted” checkbox state.

• Cursor — Fixed a bug that could cause cursor appearance to get stuck in incorrect state.
• Inspector — Restored ability to re-order tags in the Inspector via drag & drop.
• Outline — Completion Dates entered in outline popover are no longer discarded.
• Outline — Metadata is now correctly displayed for newly selected item after deletion of previously selected item.
