OmniOutliner for iOS 2.3

March 19, 2015

Requires iOS 8

OmniOutliner v2.3 is now a universal app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch! We’ve worked hard to bring OmniOutliner’s design and features to all of your devices. This release requires iOS 8.1.

  • Outline View — The outline view now freely scrolls, so the outline column can be scrolled off the screen.
  • Images — Image attachments will automatically scale down to fit the width of the column.
  • Outline View — The indentation amount for rows now scales with the zoom level.
  • Templates — Additional templates used in OmniOutliner 4 for Mac have been added.
  • Appearance — The application icon and file browser have been redesigned.
  • Updated Layout — The layout of the interface has been adapted to work on smaller iPhone and iPod touch screens as well as larger iPad screens. As a result, some of the controls may no longer be where they used to be–and may even shift automatically to different locations depending on your screen size and orientation. We hope we’ve done this in a way that makes the app even easier to use efficiently, but if you have any comments about any of the changes please don’t hesitate to email us!
  • Text Zoom — The default zoom level has been changed to 120% to better work across all iOS devices.
  • Flyout Buttons — The new row and notes flyout buttons now have a translucent background so they are easier to see over text.
  • Cellular Data — The switch for allowing OmniPresence to use cellular data has been removed. Cellular data usage is now solely controlled by iOS.
  • WebDAV — OmniPresence syncing accounts are now completely separate from WebDAV import/export accounts. Due to this, import/export accounts will need to be re-created.
  • WebDAV — Added a button to take you to the WebDAV server configuration when login fails.
  • Stability — Pasting URLs added to the pasteboard through a Share option should no longer crash.
  • Stability — Using shake to undo after changing the document title should no longer crash.
  • Scrolling — Fixed a rare issue of being scrolled back to the top when trying to scroll through a long document.
  • Word Export — The column style of the outline column should now apply to the export.
  • Word Export — Notes should now use the text alignment set in the document instead of always being left aligned.
  • Word Export — When row level styles contain nothing but a named style, those attributes should now be applied correctly to the export.
  • Templates — The default Blank template is now exactly the same as what ships with OmniOutliner 4 for Mac so there will be no surprises when switching between platforms.
  • Keyboard — The keyboard will no longer be dismissed when in the file browser due to a preview being generated.

NEW:

  • Row linking — Row links created in OmniOutliner 4 for Mac will function for jumping to other sections of the document.

UPDATED:

  • Word Export — A number of updates and fixes have been made to the Microsoft Word DOCX export:
    • The Outline view is now the default instead of Print Layout.
    • Row numbering support has significantly improved. Under most circumstances it should match the numbering you see in OmniOutliner. If row numbering is used, rows will be indented to keep the numbering readable. Note– MS Word only supports up to nine outline levels, so, for level 10 and deeper, any row numbering will be inserted at the beginning of the line as normal text and may not correctly align with the other outline levels.
    • The outline column will always be the exported column instead of the left-most column.
    • Fixed a bug with exporting font colors of certain values.
    • Multiple identical URLs in a document should now export properly.
    • Fixed a bug with preserving some linked attachments.

FIXED:

  • Styles — The New rows use peers’ style setting should now always behave predictably when on. Named styles will no longer carry over to the sibling when it is unchecked.
  • Styles — Fixed a bug with text not appearing at the correct size after pasting.

OmniOutliner for iOS 2.1

June 2, 2014

OmniOutliner 2.1 adds TextExpander support, localizations, better paste options, and numerous bug fixes.

NEW:

  • TextExpander support — For all your text expanding needs! If you have TextExpander installed on your device, open Settings from the gear menu in the document browser to update your snippets.
  • Localizations — OmniOutliner 2 is now localized for German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Russian, and Simplified Chinese. The interface has also been localized for Japanese, but with the Japanese version of OmniOutliner Help to be added in a later update. The localized Help has not yet been updated for all changes in this release.
  • Paste Plain — A second paste option has been added to the contextual menu called, Paste Plain. This is the same as Paste and Match Style on OS X and will remove any styles contained in the text being pasted.
  • Inspectors — A Clear Styles button has been added to the bottom of the style inspector. This removes any named styles or ad-hoc styles applied specifically to the row or the text within it. The Clear Custom Style button still remains in the Customize Style pane, and only clears the ad-hoc styles of the current selection.
  • Settings — A switch has been added in Settings to display the keyboard shortcuts for named styles in the inspector.
  • Settings — Help The Omni Group decide what hardware and iOS versions to support by sending us information about your device. This is totally anonymous and optional, but we appreciate it. You can turn it on in Settings, and see a list of exactly what information will be sent.

UPDATED:

  • Keyboard shortcuts — The keyboard shortcut for Group is now Command-Option-G, and Ungroup is Command-Option-U. This brings consistency with some other Omni and Apple apps.
  • Toolbar — Slightly increased the delay before showing the flyout menus on the note and new row buttons.
  • Settings — The setting Paste from other apps preserves styles has been changed to Command-V pastes as plain text. This switch now only affects the behavior of the keyboard shortcut for pasting, and not the Paste command in the contextual menu.

FIXED:

  • Stability — Fixed a crash that could happen when switching between a pop-up column and a number column with summaries on.
  • Templates — Removed the gutter colors from the Class Notes template as those are not visible in the iPad app.
  • Keyboard shortcuts — Control-9 and Control-0 will now toggle the 9th and 10th named style respectively.
  • Exports — Fixed a crash with the HTML exporter when a named style inherited another named style of the same name.
