The Blog

Feedback on the updated Japanese localizations was extremely positive, so we're marching forward to a release candidate, which is now available at our OmniGraffle beta page.

Historical release notes are in the usual location.

Cheers!

Another beta release, to add the updated Japanese localizations much as we did with the other Tier 1 languages in the beta 1 release.

Nothing beyond that code-wise, however if you do work in Japanese, we'd appreciate the feedback to see that everything is in place properly.

At noon tomorrow (January 7), you're invited to join Merlin Mann (of 43 Folders) and me at Omni's Macworld booth (#612) to talk about OmniFocus. Bring questions!

Those of you heading to the Macworld Expo this week, I hope you have time to swing by our booth (#612 in the South Hall) and say hello. We'll have presentations going all week long, so plan to come by and have a seat to learn a bit more about our apps—or hey, just rest your aching feet for a while.

We'll be the ones in fancy black OmniFocus t-shirts, assuming the newest Seattle snowfall doesn't keep us from leaving town. See you there!

OmniOutliner 3.8 beta 1 released

by Derek on December 29, 2008 | Comment

Happy Holidays! Hopefully all you north-westerners stayed safe during all the snow. Here's a little holiday gift for all the OmniOutliner users out there. OmniOutliner 3.8 beta 1 is now available which adds Quick Look preview functionality for attachments, the same as OmniFocus has. Now you can easily preview those multipage PDFs or text files like many of you have been wanting to do.

It also fixes an annoying bug which caused the vertical page break indicators to not always be accurate. However, this fix has one small downside, you will not always see the page break indicator once you snap to it. But, you should be able to safely trust that it's the correct width when you snap to it so you won't have alternating blank pages printing out.

We've also fixed one other bug recently discovered caused by pasting large amounts of text into the batch find field and made another small improvement to the HTML exporters. Full info is available in the release notes.

You'll find the download page in the usual place. And as always, please contact us if you have any trouble or have any questions by using the Help -> Send Feedback option in the app or at omnioutliner@omnigroup.com.

While developing OmniGraffle and OmniGraffle Professional 5.1, we wound up changing and adding quite a few strings and what-not, and as a result those corresponding localizations got broken in the process, this beta release has corrected foreign language translations for Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Japanese will be coming shortly in another beta release.

Also of note with this release is a fix to a memory leak related to some caching code; this repairs a common CGSWindow error that would lead to a string of constant crashes, so if you've run into a number of stability problems it's encouraged that you pick up this beta release.

As ever, the beta page awaits.

    OmniFocus 1.5 is Final!

by Michaela on November 19, 2008 | Comment

    Dear Diary,

What a long strange trip it's been. I, OmniFocus 1.5, after months of hard work from my users, engineers, ninjas, and test pilots, have finally gone final. I'm available for download on the OmniFocus page!

    Today was great.

    • I synchronized to another copy of OmniFocus and OmniFocus for iPhone.
    • I changed my Styles with my cool, new Style Preference Pane.
    • I brushed up on my Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese.
    • And, I showed off some of my slick bug fixes and interface polish.

You can find a detailed list here, uh, ...Diary.

I am so grateful to all my users who helped out along the way.

    Thanks for your support!

    Love, your BFF,

    OmniFocus
