Today we're happy to announce the public beta of OmniGraphSketcher 1.1. You can grab it via the beta download page.
So what's new? A lot! We had a great response to OmniGraphSketcher 1.0 and have been working hard on UI tweaks to make the graphing experience even better, as well as a few frequently requested features:
- Error Bars: We've been hinting at this for a while, but OmniGraphSketcher can now detect parallel data series and automatically convert them into error bars, as well as create error bars with user-specified offsets.
- Support For LinkBack: Now when you “Copy as Image” and paste your graph into OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner or any other Linkback-compliant application, you can double-click the pasted image to edit it directly in OmniGraphSketcher. Saving your changes in OmniGraphSketcher will update the linked graph image.
- Tracing: The OmniGraphSketcher canvas can now be made transparent, allowing you to position the graph window over an existing document and transfer data simply by drawing.
What about those UI tweaks? We've adjusted many tool behaviors for consistency within the application, as well as across our product range. Option-drag now duplicates graph objects, the tab key cycles through labels, and snapping works better in all tools (and when you're trying to snap both to an object and to vertical/horizontal). It's also much easier to add a new point to an existing series: just select a line and one or more free-floating points, then click one of the line-type buttons on the style inspector.
There's a ton more stuff listed in the beta release notes, so you'll have something to read while your download finishes. We look forward to your feedback!
OmniOutliner 3.9.3 is now available! All HTML exporters and Paste with Current Style should now be working correctly. And for the first time in… years? The help file has been updated to reflect the changes in past versions! Currently only the English version has been updated, but we will do another release as soon as the localized versions are ready.
There's also a couple of other bug fixes in this release. Please see the release notes for full details and when you're ready, download it manually or use the built-in software updater. As always, please contact us using Help -> Send Feedback or at omnioutliner@omnigroup.com if you run into any problems or have a question. Thanks!
This release is to mainly address the OmniSoftwareUpdateCheck crash that some people will encounter using v3.9.1. If you're using 3.9.1 and OmniOutliner crashes on you when you check for updates, please manually download this release. Sorry for the trouble!
There's also a couple of minor 10.6 compatibility issues that were recently discovered that will be fixed in the next release. Those issues are:
- The Open button will not respond to the return key automatically on the open file and attach file windows. You can still tab focus to it.
- Paste With Current Style may fail while in text editing mode if you copied from a recent WebKit based browser such as OmniWeb 5.10 or Safari 4.
We are working to get these fixed for another release.
Please see the release notes for full details on changes and you can download it manually when you're ready. As always, please contact us using Help -> Send Feedback or at omnioutliner@omnigroup.com if you run into any problems or have a question. Thanks!
Lots of news today, people, so I'm going to try and keep this short so you can skip straight ahead to the part where you sit back and bask in that new-software smell.
Updated: OmniFocus! OmniFocus 1.7 is now available for your downloading pleasure, and includes a bevy of interface improvements designed to make everything just a little more smooth and simple. We also re-worked Perspectives, hopefully making the process of working with them much easier. Overall sync performance has been improved (yay!), and you can now view a list of the attachments in your OmniFocus document, and delete them as necessary to speed up document syncing even more.
Also updated: OmniGraffle! OmniGraffle 5.2 includes support for support for portables with Multi-Touch trackpads, so you can now pinch to zoom in or out, resize a selection, or rotate a selection. We also added fixes to tables, shared layers, and dealt with some stability issues.
Also also updated: EVERYTHING ELSE. OmniFocus, OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner, OmniWeb, OmniPlan—hold on, typing cramp . . . okay—OmniGraphSketcher, OmniDiskSweeper and OmniDazzle have all been updated with support for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
You do not EVEN want to know what time the engineers went to bed last night, is what I'm saying.
Everything can be downloaded from our handy-dandy Snow Leopard status page. Enjoy!
The other day I heard one of my coworkers mention OmniPlan's gibberish-izer, and while it gave me pause I figured they were referring to some code-related whatchamadingie and calling attention to the fact that I was out of the vernacular loop would only serve to underscore the misperception that marketing weasels are kind of mouth-breathy when it comes to technical stuff.
(I mean, clearly this isn't true—just look how masterfully I threw out the term “whatchamadingie” just now! Surely that makes up for my ongoing failure to make any sense of words such as “grep”, “sudo”, and that embarrassing misunderstanding regarding “zombies”.)
As it turns out, though, there is in fact an actual gibberish-izer built into both OmniPlan and OmniGraffle. It probably has a real feature name and everything, but since no one bothered to ask ME what to name it (hello, MUMBO-JUMBOTRON! Could there be a better name? Don't step too close, now, or you'll get my sheer unrelenting genius all over you, and that stuff will stain), I'll just tell you that it's a clever bit of functionality that garbles the data in the documents you send us.
If you choose “Send Feedback” from the Help menu in OmniPlan, you'll get an option to include a copy of your document with your email. If you'd like to gibberish-ize it, OmniPlan will replace all your tasks, resources, and notes with random boring names like “Task 17” and “Resource 5”. This way, we can take a look at the structure of your document and help you figure out any problems you might be having, but all your confidential information is protected.

CONFIDENTIAL HIGH-RISK INFO! OMG!

UNEXCITING SANITIZED INFO. WHEW.
With OmniGraffle, we give you the option to convert all text to gibberish (text is actually replaced with little x's, like dead fish eyeballs!). So, whatever your nefarious plans and diagrams may be, you can always email them to us . . . without, you know, sharing everything with us.
The More You Know™!
We're still working on adding great features like automatic creation of Error Bars to OmniGraphSketcher 1.1, but in the meantime we're putting out version 1.0.1 to ensure compatibility with any forthcoming OS X updates from Apple. In addition, this release features quite a few bug fixes, adds a “Select All Fills” menu item, and gives users the ability to import data that has text labels specified for only some rows.
You can read the full release notes and grab Beta 1 here. Please don't hesitate to email or Help > Send Feedback if you encounter any new issues or if you just want to chat about how you use OmniGraphSketcher.
OmniOutliner 3.9 is now available as a free update for all OmniOutliner 3 customers! Thanks to everyone who helped beta test, we appreciate it!
This release brings some much needed updating in the form of our self-installing updater and switching to Apple's auto-save feature. Any file you have open will now be backed-up even if you've never saved it!
The other big addition in 3.9 is a new exporter for OmniOutliner Professional. You will now find a “Word 2007 Format (docx)” in the list which exports to Microsofts new Office Open XML format. The docx format can also be imported to Pages '09 and some other apps. This export will retain your level styles and also retain the outline structure for viewing in Word's outline mode. More details about what is supported and its limitations are available in the release notes.
If you're already using OmniOutliner 3, version 3.9 is a free update. If you haven't tried out OmniOutliner yet, version 3.9 has switched over to using a 2-week fully functional trial instead of trial licenses, so give it a go! There's also a number of smaller additions and bug fixes in this release. Please see the release notes for full details. Head on over to the download page when you're ready, or use the built-in updater if you're using a 3.9 beta (OmniOutliner menu -> Check for Updates). If you have any feedback on this release, please let us know by using the Send Feedback option under the help menu or send an email to omnioutliner@omnigroup.com. Thanks!
Beta 6 of OmniOutliner 3.9 is ready for use! With the OS requirement change to 10.4, we realized we could now implement one more feature we've been wanting to do for a while. OmniOutliner will now use Apple's auto-save feature for backups instead of our own version. This is the same thing our other apps use already like OmniPlan and OmniGraffle. The one major feature this gets us is that new never before saved files will now be backed up incase you encounter a crash. Those files will be saved to “~/Library/Autosave Information”. Backups of previously saved files will be located in the same folder that contains the OmniOutliner document. More details are available in the release notes.
Beta 6 also fixes a couple bugs, and a couple crashes that existed in the previous 3.9 betas.
Thanks!
Hey OmniPlan planners, 1.6.3 rc 1 has been released!
In this version we fixed an issue where some of the toolbar buttons were disabled, a bug where pressing “G” (for group) when a column was selected would throw up an alert panel, and a couple of new array index errors during Microsoft Project file import.
Please keep in mind that this version is still in development so feedback is encouraged and we apologize if it breaks your computer, corrupts your files, or ruins your weekend.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions or comments. You can contact us directly via our support page or by using the Send Feedback feature in your copy of OmniPlan.
If you're ready to give this rc a try, you can download it here!
A few regressions and bugs addressed, a number of crashes fixed (including a pesky Quick Look related crash), and a little bit of a new feature added in this release:
Canvas names are retained on export to PDF, for various bookmarking and navigational purposes in whatever PDF viewer happens to be your favorite.
Please do take a look at the beta download page and historical release notes.
