Video Producer

The Omni Group is seeking help in producing videos that support our world-class products. The Video Producer is part of the Marketing team, but also works closely with Engineering, UX, and Support.

Job Activities

  • Work with UX, Engineering, Support, and Product Management to create video tutorials and other video content that helps support our full line of software applications for OS X and iOS
  • Work with the Marketing team to plan and develop concepts behind the video projects, and decide what forms of media will be used - usually involving processes like scripting, storyboarding, group collaboration, etc
  • Participate in refining and managing our video production processes
  • Be willing to participate and collaborate in other areas of marketing - including (but not limited to) website design, advertising, marketing communication
  • Be a champion for software usability and work with the UX team to refine our software
  • Work with customers or affiliated clients, representing The Omni Group as both an advocate for customers and the company, with an aim toward mutual education

Requirements

  • You are able to work with us in our Seattle office in South Lake Union just north of Downtown. We’re not looking for remote or contract employees - sorry, but we won’t be making any exceptions on this
  • Great written and oral communication skills
  • Be willing to become proficient with all our software applications and write scripts for tutorials and screencasts
  • The ability to work in a non-traditional marketing department that is not consumed by SEO and ROI
  • Help identify customers that have a unique story that involves the use of our software
  • Design, develop, and deliver instructional materials, step by step instructions, use-case documentaries, workflow tutorials, podcasts, and blog posts in a variety of media (print, video, web) and formats
  • A passion for creating informative and well-crafted video content
  • Aptitude at writing scripts, editing video, recording audio, and shooting video
  • The ability to debate Marketing issues with the goal of finding a good answer, not winning the debate
  • Self-motivation with an ability to meet deadlines
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Other Desirable Skills

  • Experience with customer service, community management and/or education
  • Experience producing promotional materials and/or events.
  • Aptitude for production related software - including (but not limited to) ScreenFlow, Final Cut Pro X, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic, Adobe Creative Suite (or similar).
  • Experience using Mac OS X and iOS
  • Have participated in bringing a new product to market
  • Some knowledge of Omni software products

Documentation Wrangler

The Omni Group is seeking help in creating world-class documentation to ship with our world-class products. The Documentation Wrangler position is part of our User Experience team, but also works closely with Engineering, Marketing, QA, and Support.

Job Activities

  • Write end-user software documentation for Mac OS X and iOS productivity applications — both traditional user manuals and searchable help
  • Work with the Support team to maintain online resources such as FAQ lists, troubleshooting guides, sample documents, and tips
  • Use version-control and bug-tracking systems to corral documentation resources for multiple versions of multiple products simultaneously
  • Watch out for places where our software could be improved, and file bugs accordingly; after all, you will be working with prerelease versions of our products, and documentability is an indicator of usability
  • Participate in refining and managing our documentation process, creating schedules and tracking progress
  • Edit others’ writing, keeping an eye out for style, usage, and consistency problems
  • Be a champion of documentation quality, ensuring that the documentation contributes to a wonderful overall user experience with Omni products

Requirements

  • A passion for outstanding software documentation, and a vision for how documentation fits into the overall user experience - language, software and writing should be among your greatest strengths
  • Two years of technical writing experience, or the ability to convince us that you’re as able as someone with two years
  • Working knowledge of the Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Apple Style Guide
  • Be self-motivated with an ability to meet deadlines
  • The ability to work independently on many tasks while communicating with your team about all of them
  • The ability to conform and contribute to the common voice for Omni communications — this means crafting expository writing that’s hospitable and enjoyable, not just informative
  • Experience using Mac OS X and iOS and familiarity with the language used to describe the interfaces
  • Some knowledge of Omni products

Other Desirable Points

  • Experience documenting Macintosh or iOS software
  • Experience using iOS, and familiarity with the language used to describe the iOS interface
  • Ability to edit or critique others’ writing without treading on their voice
  • Ability to write to a style guide
  • HTML expertise
  • Graphics expertise
