Coffee Crisis

by Joel on July 27, 2006

As some of you may have read, I like me some coffee.

Imagine my dismay when I saw this:

Espresso machine down!

Thankfully, due to my last post on the subject, Omni user Ralph was kind enough to send us some coffee from New Orleans:

Coffee to the rescue!

But what to make it in, if the machine is broken? Why, what's this? A small brewer!

Behold!

Almost there…

Brew faster!

Omni enjoys some freshly brewed coffee in the face of adversity!

Yum!

Thanks, Ralph!

It's fair trade coffee, right?

Come on!! There is a rather nice coffee place next door to you guys!!! ;-)

The problem with the coffee place next door is that they have these “customers” who like to park in our parking lot. Which is fine since we apparently don't actually own the parking lot due to some weird zoning thing.

But I end up getting to see all kinds of people parking, looking at the signs that say “please park here only if you work for omni”, then looking guilty for a second or 2 and then shrugging and going to get them some coffee.  Its not as exciting as say….watching grass grow, but still exciting.

Well, in that case, just have someone run outside with a foam bat screaming at the top of their lungs about stealing *THEIR* prized parking spot and then leave “ads” on their cars for Omni products.  “If you park here, you must purchase one of the following products.”  Regular customers will get the idea, and non-regulars will find some other coffee shop that isn't next door to a tech company full of psychos.

see, it's TOO fancy, it's overwhelming! I got coffee there the other day in desperation, in a to-go cup and they'd made an awesome little picture in the top of my coffee!! how can I feel good drinking something like that! I'm ruining priceless foamed-milk art!

Bah.  If you want to keep the art, there is digital photography.  Frankly, I revel in the destruction of things I am meant to destroy.  Like those little plastic bubble wrappers.  I mean, who ever reuses those?

Zoka is definitely great, but whenever I go there, I'm tempted by the pastries.  Ruins my diet.  Of course, sometimes I still go when our espresso machine is having issues (today it was, again, the pressure sensor not shutting off the boiler heater, leading to an extreme amount of pressure and strange scary sounds).

You should print fake parking tickets that advertise one of the many Omni products and stick them under the windshield wipers of cars parking in your spots.  (Of course, then you run the risk of the many Omni customers intentionally parking out (or worse yet flying out) to collect the “tickets”.)

A potential deflection would be to get the Zoka people to draw little Omni application icons in the lattes they make.

I don't drink coffee, but I love me some New Orleans (raised here and currently live here). Seeing Community coffee on the blog brightened my day a smidgeon. Enjoy it! And ask him to send you some Cafe du Monde Coffee and Chicory. Now -there's- some New Orleans for you.

Dudes, you guys totally need Clip-n-Seals to keep the coffee fresh.

I've been told keeping your coffee in the fridge keeps it fresher longer. Of course, coffee never lasts that long 'round here for that.

And you're welcome! I've been so busy with work I haven't hit the blog in a while and didn't realize it made it.

Andrew, say hi to my old hometown (I left on Aug 28 last year, have only been back once for less than 24 hours; lost my home). Have a nice roast beef po-boy, a tall cold Barq's (in the bottle, of course) and after go get a chocolate sno-ball.

Man, I'm hungry.

FWIW, Community Coffee is the State coffee of Louisiana. It's not the best coffee in the world, but it's definitely a cut above the rest and something the I grew up with.

Looks like you've got quite a fan of Omni in Ralph. WTG Ralph!
