OmniDiskSweeper for Catalina Available!

by Brent Simmons on October 9, 2019

OmniDiskSweeper 1.12 is our free app for finding disk space on your Mac — and we just updated it for Catalina (macOS 10.15)!

It shows you everything on your hard drive, ranked by size, so you can see which files and folders are taking up a lot of space — which helps you figure out what you can delete, or move somewhere else, so you can free up disk space.

The updates for Catalina include a Dark Mode About Panel, fixed handling of Catalina volumes, and removal of an unneeded notification.

But do note that Catalina will ask for permissions for OmniDiskSweeper to access various things — it might ask, for instance, if it can access your contacts. This is because it’s looking at the sizes of all your files, which includes the files that contain your contacts.

But it’s not actually reading your contacts, files in your Documents folder, and so on — it’s just looking at file sizes.

Read the release notes for the full scoop!

And go reclaim some space on your hard drive. :)

MacOS 10.15 Catalina and Omni Apps

by Brent Simmons on October 7, 2019

Happy macOS 10.15 day! We use and love our Macs here at Omni, as you’d imagine, and it’s always exciting when a newer, better macOS ships.

Our work this summer was mainly with adopting new features in iOS 13: Catalina took less of our time. For one thing, macOS already has features — such as multiple windows, Dark Mode, and context menus — that iOS is just getting now.

Our apps — OmniFocus, OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner, and OmniPlan — are all Catalina-compatible right now. There are a couple remaining glitches you may see: we’ll have fixes for those soon. But they’re non-critical and shouldn’t impact your workflow. See our Omni apps on macOS 10.15 Catalina support document for more details.

And, as always, please contact our Support Humans if you have questions or need help.

PS Bonus app! We’re updating OmniDiskSweeper for Catalina, with a new release possibly as soon as today. (Here’s the current test version.)

OmniOutliner Now Available with iOS 13 Features

by Brent Simmons on October 4, 2019

OmniOutliner 3.4 for iOS is now available on the App Store! This release requires iOS 13 — which is a great release for boosting your personal productivity, which we’re excited about. Your productivity is our passion!

The big new features in OmniOutliner 3.4 are:

  • Native Dark Mode: when you switch the system to Dark Mode, OmniOutliner will appear in Dark Mode. (Note that this doesn’t, and shouldn’t, affect your document styles.)
  • Multiple windows: on iPad you can open more than one outline window at a time.
  • Standard document browser: by switching to Apple’s standard document browser, OmniOutliner gives you more flexibility with where you store your documents and how they sync.

But that’s not nearly all: we’ve made improvements to preview images, Omni Automation support, keyboard shortcuts, text editing, and more. Read the release notes for the full scoop.

OmniPresence users should take note: because OmniOutliner has adopted the standard document browser, we’ve had to change how you get to your OmniPresence files. Those files are in a subfolder in the OmniOutliner folder on your device. Also note that OmniPresence does not download larger files automatically — tap the OmniPresence icon in the file browser toolbar to download any missing files.

PS Here’s a lovely screenshot of OmniOutliner, running in Dark Mode, with two windows open:
