OmniFocus 3 for Mac Public Test

by Brent Simmons on September 17, 2018

Would you like to help us test OmniFocus 3 for Mac? Here’s how:

Download a public test build of OmniFocus 3 for Mac and then let us know how it goes — choose Contact Omni from the Help menu to send us your bug reports and feedback.

You can also sign up for our Slack workspace and join the #omnifocus3_test channel and talk about OmniFocus with other users.

Important note: some parts of the app are still works-in-progress — for instance, the first-run walkthrough is still being worked on.

What’s Inside

OmniFocus 3 for Mac includes tags, enhanced custom perspectives, interleaved Forecast, and other new features that already appear in OmniFocus 3 for iOS. Listen to, or read, The Omni Show: OmniFocus 3 for Mac: New Features for more details.

It also includes a modern, updated design that still manages to remain familiar to everyone who’s used OmniFocus 2 for Mac.

We plan to ship Monday, September 24.

Once it Ships

When it’s finished, the app will be available from our website and from the Mac App Store as a free download with a 14-day trial. The Standard edition will cost $39.99; Pro will cost $79.99.

Everyone who bought a previous version of OmniFocus for Mac will get a 50% discount (as long as it’s through the same place: Mac App Store or our website), and everyone who bought OmniFocus for Mac since our announcement last October will get a free upgrade.

OmniFocus, OmniGraffle Updates for iOS 12

by Brent Simmons on September 17, 2018

We’re excited for the release of iOS 12 today — especially for Siri Shortcuts!

We’ve been working hard on our apps to get them ready, and today we have updates to OmniFocus and OmniGraffle. OmniPlan and OmniOutliner updates are coming soon.

Here’s the scoop on each:

OmniFocus

OmniFocus 3.1 for iOS is up on the App Store with support for Siri Shortcuts and for the Apple Watch Siri Face.

Siri will start suggesting activities — in Spotlight, on the lock screen, and in Siri Settings — based on things you do: viewing parts of your database, creating new items, and completing repeating tasks.

Some Siri Shortcuts can also appear in the Apple Watch Siri Face: marking a repeating action complete, viewing a project with a due date, and viewing a tag with a location.

Other changes include Handoff support and an enhancement to custom perspectives. See the release notes for details.

OmniGraffle

OmniGraffle 3.7 for iOS adds support for Siri Shortcuts and fixes a number of bugs.

Siri will suggest opening existing documents and creating new documents based on your observed patterns. As with OmniFocus, these suggestions can appear in Spotlight, on the lock screen, and in Siri Settings.

OmniOutliner Import has been enhanced: contents are now laid out on a canvas using Infinite Canvas Mode.

And several bugs — related to nudging, orthogonal lines, masking, and more — were fixed. See the release notes for the complete list.

OmniFocus 3 for Mac to Ship September 24

by Brent Simmons on September 13, 2018

OmniFocus 3 for Mac will appear in the Mac App Store and on our website Monday, September 24. (That’s the plan, but the usual caveat applies that it has to go through the App Store review process.)

It’s still in testing at the moment, but it’s very close to being ready, and we couldn’t be more excited to get it finished and make it available to everybody.

Also going on: OmniFocus for the Web is in testing with an early small group, and we’re working on updates for OmniFocus 3 for iOS.

Discounts and Upgrades

OmniFocus 3 for Mac will be available from the Mac App Store and from our website. It will be a free download with a 14-day trial. The Standard edition will cost $39.99, and Pro will cost $79.99.

Everyone who bought a previous version of OmniFocus for Mac (via the same place: Mac App Store or our website) will get a 50% discount, and everyone who bought OmniFocus for Mac since our announcement last October will get a free upgrade.

OmniGraffle Updates for Mac and iOS

by Brent Simmons on September 10, 2018

OmniGraffle 7.8.2 for Mac is available via our site and on the Mac App Store. OmniGraffle 3.6.2 for iOS is available on the App Store.

These updates include a common change: line routing path data is stored in OmniGraffle documents, so that the app can preserve routes calculated by an older line routing algorithm.

These updates also fix some other orthogonal line routing bugs reported by users. More info:

The Omni Show: Grayson West, Design Manager

by Brent Simmons on September 5, 2018

In the latest episode of The Omni Show we interview Grayson West, Design Manager — manager of user experience, websites, and marketing. Including this blog and The Omni Show itself. :)

We talk about how he got his name from a book, about bicycle racing, about kiteboarding, and plenty more. From Oregon to southern California to Europe to Georgia to Arizona to Seattle to Baja California Sur, this international cat person has been around. And our enterprising and fearless team got him to talk about it.

(Well. We asked him and he said yes, so it wasn’t really so difficult, but it’s fun to pretend.)
