Hello,
Ok, here is the famous Apple statement...fresh off the Internet:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/webobjects-dev/2006/Aug/msg01144.html
That's why I was asking Wojtek earlier if he would rather "wait and
see" over the
next few months how the announcements and promises regarding "runtime
development" from Apple actually pan out in reality...
No more NDA so this can be discussed freely.
I see two options I mentioned earlier:
#1 The *positive* interpretation: Apple develops a super-duper WO 5.x
or 6.0, ie. Apple can now focus more resources on WebObjects runtime
sans tools..and implement support for old wishes (multithreads) and
new things (AJAX and any upcoming buzzword ) faster.
Apple is closely working with the community in the future regarding tools etc.
#2 The *negative* interpretation: The statement is mostly PR to
appeal to the community since Xcode is going away. Apple is still
letting development languish outside of Apple and there is no major
update coming. Apple can outsource costs without giving too much back
in return..
Only time will tell which interpretation is right - which might
greatly affect the decision to make an opensource effort needed one
day.
I of course hope 1# is true and am hoping the community and Apple will
set the power of WO free.
Marc
