If you are using direct connect, then that is the problem. No need to
re-install WebObjects.

The point of split-install is to have web server serve the images. You
should reference images by their relative URL. Direct connect doesn't know
about the web server root - two different domains.

Any specific reason for using direct connect?? I'd just turn it off and use
your favorite web server.
