Which is subjective opinion. Personally, I think horizontal tabs fail  
miserably at that requirement too but that is just a matter of taste.

FWIW, some more features offered by vertical tabs that are absent  
from horizontal ones:

Subconsciously, I know what I have open and loaded at any one time  
with the vertical tabs because I read from left to right, not up and  
down, so my eyes are constantly scanning in the right place every few  
seconds to notice this. Horizontal tabs require I physically look at  
them to see what progress has been made and to select them.

I can distinguish the correct tab instantly as it is visually  
distinct from all other tabs.

Double-clicking a tab in OmniWeb will open it in a new window (note,  
this can be a con as well as a pro - see recent thread on the forums  
about accidentally doing this on a trackpad).
