Detachable sidebar

It is possible, but then your window/palette of tabs wouldn't fit the
content. E.g. if you have 20 tabs in one window and two in another,
when you switch focus your palette will be either too small or too
large or it would have to dynamically resize (in which case it would
shift on the screen), all of which is an unattractive proposition,
IMO, that wouldn't necessarily add anything to the user experience.
I guess it might be better to state why it is you would like this
feature (that is, what is the problem you have with the current
method that you think this would solve) as it might help someone come
up with an alternative solution that works more simply.
