This statement is a bit misleading. It was the same as Safari when
it was released a year ago (with the changes that give us the OmniWeb
goodness), but it isn't now. Looking at the release notes at
<http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniweb/releasenotes/>
it appears that the WebCore on which OmniWeb is based is the version
that was used in Safari 1.2. Significant enhancements have been made
since then.
I use OmniWeb 90% of the time because of its unique features, but
there are some times when it is just too slow relative to other
browsers. This is very obvious on my 500 MHz G3 iMac on a dial-up
connection at home, but it is also evident on my 1.8 GHz G5 PowerMac
on a T-something at work.
