"waiting for available connection"

Well, I hardly dare to mention it but ....

I am getting a lot of "hangs" where OW5 says "waiting for available 
connection", the activity monitor spins for ever, and I have to Force Quit. 
Other internet apps work fine while it's doing this.

ideas??
