I'd like to come out in support of having it available as an option, if 
only because this suggestion has cropped up a fair few times.

It's non-standard behaviour, yes. I prefer things to be consistent, yes. 
But the bottom line is, a number of people want this because they 
believe that software should adapt to the end-user, not the other way 
around.

So, lets' make it an option, with the current behaviour being the 
default.
