I fully agree.  One of the first things I noticed when I started using
OW was that the click(s)-in-address-field behavior was how I've wanted
it to work in other browsers.  It's awkward to adjust the cursor insert
point when a single click highlights some region of text, which is (as
you mention) fundamentally counterintuitive to how it works in other
applications.
