OK here we go...

Open IE

go to preferences > network > protokoll help programms

There you'll see a list of protokolls (ftp, http, gopher, etc...) which 
you click and than change...

You can decide now for what protokoll you can use as an application 
(Omniweb)... Important is to *uncheck* the radio "Take if possible the 
actual application".

One little note...
As I have a german IE, I had to translate all words on the fly... They 
might be some differences, but I think you'll get the idea...
