"save as" produces a gzipped file?

When I tried to save this page to disk:

using "Save As" and giving a file name of "x.html", the resulting file 
wasn't html, and it wasn't even text. "file x.html" in a terminal window 
said it was gzipped data, so I renamed the file to "x.gz" and tried 
gunzip.  Sure enough, after unzipping it, I had the html.

"Save As" usually works, but I've seen this same thing happen a few 
times before.
