The bug has been discussed before, I don't remeber seeing the same
suggestion previously.

This is no longer a problem under MacOS 10.1.1. If you stick with
the OW version you have, the System preferences now remembers your
web browser.
The system only goes back to the default application (IE) if you upgrade OW.

Even though the problem is not as critical as it was under MacOS <
10.1, it still can be considered as a bug (it only affects users
updating OW).
Nevertheless, the "use this browser as the default app" message
could be useful to people using OW for the first time (or people
upgrading OW).
