Hi,
For my work I use a bibliographic reference database and search
engine called ASFA (Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts)
managed by Cambridge Scientific Abstracts
http://www.csa.com/siteV3/login.html
(you wont't be able to go try it as your institution has to have a
membership to grant you access).
When I do a search which results in more than 25 hits, the first 25
are displayed on the page, and a list of page numbers is shown at the
bottom. If you click on "2" you get hits 26 through 50, etc.
Except that in Omniweb the page redraws, but still shows references
1-25. I had this problem in either iCab or IE about a year ago, and
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts told me I had to set my browser to
change the preferences of my browser for this setting:
Check if cached files need to be updated: check with each access
I don't know anything about web page design, but "instinctively" this
suggests to me that I do not get any speed increase with caching,
which is not a good idea. After all, plenty of sites give you these
page numbers for additional "hits" without requiring you to set your
browser this way.
But like it or not I need to regularly access that site for my work.
The problem is I did not find a preference pannel in Omniweb to
adjust this setting. Can it be done? If not, please consider this a
"wish" or "suggestion" for the future. The best would be to be able
to have an "exception" list. Thus I could set the browser to update
cached pages once per session by default, but to check with each
access for that particular site where I do my bibliographic searches.
Thanks in advance,
Denis
