NeXT Newbie Alert!!
Over the last week or so I've been setting a DeepSpace purchased Turbo Color slab. Great shape; Bright monitor. I asked the list about downloading software using my Mac and transferring using Zip disks. My problem then was I was using "Stuffit" to un-tar the files. After learning "gnutar" and terminal.app I was golden and in download heaven. Thanks for the help!
Now... I've downloaded PPP (2.3.5 I believe) and Gatekeeper, Omniweb2, Newsgrazer (?) and GatorFTP. After installing PPP I found I was unable to use the supplied front end, "LogOn", as it only works with OS4.2. Gatekeeper was installed and configured last night and I was able to manually dial my USR 33.6 Sportster and login to my server. I'll work on the script tonight!
My question now has to do with setting up the DNS and IP stuff. Total Newbie! I've used Macs for awhile so have really had no experience goofing with PPP, TCP/IP etc. (Installer set it up and it worked). If someone could steer me in the right direction so I might gain Internet browsing capability with the Slab I'd appreciate it. I'll figure out Mail, News, and FTP later (though I can't wait for my first piece of NEXTMail, WooHoo!!!)
Where do I start? I noticed there is OmniDNSHelper available for OS4.2. Is there such an app for NS3.3??
Appreciate the assistance. I typically find that the info I need is in front of my eyes and, as soon as I ask the question finally see it, This, of course, after I've wasted bandwidth, time, and pride. Here goes.
Best Regards,
David
