Automatic checking of bookmarks

Does anyone else have problems with the automatic checking of bookmarks?   
Mine never seems to check them unless I change the 'By Default' (actually, I  
don't have to change it... just pop the popup panel and away it goes).

I'm just wondering if there is something I've missed.

I've got them set to 7 days.... but they just all updated and there are tons  
of changes....
