Help installing b4, please! -- PROXY HELP

Ken,
Unfortunately, I have found that the problems go a little deeper than
we previously suspected... Here is what I found:

1.	I restarted and logged in as the root user to change the root's
profile for the OmniWeb proxy settings. As you had mentioned, it did
allow me to enter values in the ONE of the proxy fields. So, I was
able to enter proxy.domain.com:port. Yet, this won't actually work
because it tries to use the proxy to access the proxy since my domain
and the proxy's domain differ (ie intel.developers.omnigroup.com
versus proxy.omnigroup.com).
2.	Before restarting again, I decided to try logging out to see if
this would work around the editing bug. In fact, it does allow you to
edit the proxy info by logging out and back in. One small problem
though...
3.	Upon logging back in without a restart, I found that although I
could edit the values each time, it did not retain the changes.
4.	Could this be a permissions issue, I thought? So I used AppOpener
to open OmniWeb as the root user. This brought up a totally virgin set
of proxy settings not matching any of the values that I previously set
with the root user or the values for my current user. Nevertheless, I
was able to edit ONE of these fields as well so I gave that a shot.
5.	By this point, I figured that a restart would be the best thing to
do. When I came back in as root, the root values were now the generic
initial values again... I changed them again...
6.	Then I decided to try the "Save All" to perhaps save my settings...
This led to permission problems - at this time, I am using the root
user and was surprised to see that I did not have permission to save
my sample bookmarks or a new one I created in the english.lprog
directory in OmniWeb.app or in my root user folder. But when I chose
"quit", it asked me to save changes to both of these documents. I
answered yes for the root user folder and it completed with complaint.
Upon restart, I found that the proxy setting was finally retained
correctly, but the SampleBookmarks and the new one I created were not
created in my root user folder as I was led to believe before. By the
way, it is the "Save Failed" dialog that I am hitting, and I
definitely have space on my drive...
7.	I attempted to add a new *.domain.com entry to the do not proxy
area... Editing was allowed (root user). Upon restart, I found that
8.	For my normal user, it seems that although I am editing the proxy
value with restarts and continued logging out and in, it is not
retaining any change for the initial value that I incorrectly entered
proxy.compaq.com/:8080
9.	BTW, one recommended interface change for the proxy setting would
be to allow for different port values for the protocols in the proxy.
10.	Restarted... root now is missing my most recent entry of
*.domain.com in the do not proxy field. I added a new one again and
changed it from "com" to "*.domain.com" ---- BTW, it is safe to
assume that the base domain will be the same as the proxy's and the
user's. Therefore you may want to make the add button add the base
user domain instead of just com... What if it is an educational user,
etc?
11.	Restarted... root user login. Again, my "*.compaq.com" setting is
missing from the do not proxy fields. I changed the default entry of
my exact domain this time to be the desired "*.compaq.com"
12.	Restarted... root user login. My changes have again been lost.
Unfortunately, this renders the proxy support useless for my
applications. I also logged back in as my normal user and found that
the values for my proxy server have remained at the incorrect values I
set the first, despite my attempts to change it.

I hope that this helps you all track down the bugs. All in all you
have a great application. I also use and really like the CPU monitor
that you all wrote. That was one thing that I really liked about the
BEOS; it had a great CPU load monitor. I am running on a P166 and I am
really curious what kind of usage/load Rhapsody and the apps place on
this low end system's CPU.

Thanks,
Tim

Thanks for the bug report. This is a Rhapsody-specific bug (which
also crops up in editing bookmark labels); we're looking into it.

Use http://proxy.compaq.com:8080/. (This is the standard URL form
for specifying alternate ports.)

This is another manifestation of that bug where you can only edit
once during the lifetime of the application. If you quit and
restart, you'll be able to edit.

You should be able to double-click on a protocol ("http") and enter
another protocol (e.g., "ftp") in its place. I'm afraid you're going
to get bit by that editing bug again, though, so you'll probably
have to quit and restart a few times.

Do note that if you don't add any protocols, the proxy applies to
all protocols.
