I strongly disagree with you. Animated GIFs are a bug, not a feature IMHO! ;-) 

It's really a pain in the eyes looking at most of the web pages with  
animated GIFs. -- Of course, a switch in the Preferences to en- or disable  
the animated GIFs could satisfy both sides...
