Adding new search engines to Search Panel ?

Sorry, I couldn't find this in the online documentation:

How do I add new search engines to OmniWeb's Search Panel ?  
Certainly, dragging URL does work, but in most cases, in end up with  
the URL of the search page, and not the URL of the search CGI  
script.

Looking into the source code of OmniGroup's Search.html, it looks  
like the exclamation mark `!' has the function of a variable for the  
search text. Is there any further documentation on this available ?
