CALTECH -- As of 4:00 PM PST, eText Engine has finally entered public
beta test-phase. Copies of this hypermedia document authoring system
are available on WWW at http://etext.caltech.edu and by ftp at
ftp://etext.caltech.edu/pub/eTextEngine/eText-PR1-01-FAT.tar.gz (ls(1)
is broken for interactive ftp sessions currently; type the filename
exactly) This release currently reads: RTF, RTFD, and ETFD (eText
Format Document) and writes HTMD (HTML Document), TeXD (LaTeX
Document), C, and formatted ASCII. This release comes after over a
year of design and implementation work by Rohit Khare and the eText
Group.

* Note: this release is public, but I am not submitting it to
comp.sys.next.announce for another week, in order to incorporate the
first round of bug-fixes, documentation writing, and W3 site
setup. Feel free to spread the word...
