bug for in-line images

was looking at a network page that specified an in-line image as
 , i.e. without a .gif extension.
omniweb downloaded the image but did not render to screen.

i checked that /images/optimage/q was sent with the correct mime header,
i.e. Content-type: image/gif , so this is another case where omniweb
is not using the mime header properly. (this is the problem since
i also downloaded the page and .gif file to local disk and changed the
url to bring up the image with an explicit .gif extension and it worked fine)

try it on http://xxx.lanl.gov/xxxform.html and let's hope it responds
properly to the directives, crucial in this context.

what is socks? some pc trick?

is this a reversion to the baroque rendering of
,
or something more ominous?
