Hi, Jeff. The best way to do this, IMHO, is to use Emacs with w3.el in one  
window and html mode in the other window. Then you just hit "r" to reload the  
page you are working on.  Once it looks reasonable in that mode, try another  
viewer and see how it looks there.

This is my standard modus operandus.
