Searching

I am not to WWW so this might be a rather simple question.

How does on search (assuming it is possible with the present version)?

I want to locate certain topics, a specific ftp/gopher server, etc.

Oh, cmd-U does not work here also.  I see the item on the services list but I  
get an error when I try to "go to" the strings people have posted and said  
work.  I get an "Unable to access document" message.
