Firewalls

There is code being produced by a small group of people to allow WWW apps reach  
past firewalls in a "safe" fashion.  Sort of like safe sex in that I am not  
sure there is a foolproof way to reach past a firewall.

Are there plans to include such functionality?  I understand that the code  
exists on a CERM machine.  I have a pointer to one of the authors (he lives  
just west of me in OR and works for Intel).

PS.  I am starting a new position in a few weeks and the firewall is pretty  
strict so I have a vested interest.
