Have you tried using hoisting?  For example, you could put all the  
recipes in a single outline and use the utility draw as your project  
drawer.  (There are two main disadvantages to this: you can only look  
at one recipe at a time, and you have to have the same set of columns  
for all recipes.  But, if you can live with those constraints, then  
hoisting might be helpful.)
