What I normally recommend to people is that if they get in a  
situation where their topic column is no longer holding the main row  
data that the XML source be edited to move the "topic bit" to some  
other column. Clearly we should have UI to do this but we don't.

There's no way to do this automatically but we have a script that  
will apply named styles to rows based on the value of a pop-up  
column. I'm sure it could easily be adapted for this task. You can  
find it in our scripts package on the extras page
