any way to hide a column (on-screen, not printout)

Unfortunately, no, there is no way to hide columns. It's something  
that we recognize would be useful, but I don't have anything to  
announce about when we might support it.

I recommend that you and anyone else interested in this feature, who  
hasn't already, send a request to omnioutliner at omnigroup.com, so that  
your request will get filed in our system, which helps us prioritize  
future work.
