AppleScript - "selected column" broken?

Is there a way to identify the cell that the insertion point is 
currently in? It's easy enough (with OO 2.2) to get the row, but it 
appears to be impossible to identify a specific cell.

I'd like to be able to get and set the contents of the 'current' cell 
in an OO document. The sample scripts don't cover this, and I suspect 
it may not be supported. Anyone have an example to prove me wrong?
