Take a look at the column type options that are available in the 
inspector. e.g. I run a multi-project ToDo list in OO with columns for

Topic (contains the task hierarchy): type = rich text, summaries = 
none, show status check boxes = on
Priority: type = popup list, summaries = none
status; type = popup list, summaries = none
Due date: type = date, summaries = none, format = as you like it
Cost: type = duration, summaries = calculated, format = work time


But there are probably lots of other cleverer ways to do this,
