Summaries for text and rich text don't do anything.

The values that you see reverting to their previous value when you edit
them is a bug with text columns in 2.0 beta 1. I've fixed that problem
for the next beta, but in the meantime I recommend not using text
columns. (Rich text is fine.)

That's why I added it. Imagine an outline with product features in the
outline column, and two columns of checkboxes for different products.
You really only need checkboxes at the leaf rows, and since the
checkboxes are all at the same horizontal position it's hard to
distinguish which ones are summary checkboxes.

There are other places that I thought it might be useful, but in
practice I've used the other two types instead.

There currently isn't a way to hide columns but I plan on adding that
sometime in the future. This way people who don't want to see the note
column in every outline will be able to hide it. (You can't remove the
note column.)

I hope this helps,
