OG has groups (and tables and subgraphs, which are similar to groups),
which are graphics which contain other graphics. OG also makes it easy
to interpret the lines connecting objects as forming them into a tree
or graph of objects, so you could say that the objects pointed to by
your 'container' object are 'contained by' it in the sense of the
workflow you're putting together.

Right now there's no way to trigger a script action other than by
clicking on the object to which the script is attached, though. It
would be very nice to be able to do so, especially for the kind of use
you're describing, but it could too easily become a security
nightmare. :/
