I certainly agree that people will often want to reply publicly to the 
list (just as I'm doing now) so that everyone can be educated by the 
response.  I just don't think that changing the Reply-To header is the 
right solution to this.

Right now, it works exactly as it would in any other email 
conversation:  if you wrote a message to Mark and me and I reply to it, 
it would generally be polite for me to use Reply All so that Mark can 
also see my reply.  The exact same thing applies here on the list.

In other words, make "Reply All" your default reply in all email 
conversations, and you will no longer have any issue with the 
configuration of this list's Reply-To header.  (And when someone does 
want to send an individual reply, for example when they're collecting 
responses which they've offered to summarize to the list, everyone 
won't have to deal with the fact that each user's personal Reply-To 
header has been wiped by the mailing list in passage.)
