Using screendumps in Word

We know that there is a problem using many pdfs in Word documents, 
because Office doesn't interpret them properly.  Does this apply also 
to pdfs created by the Mac OS 10 as a screendump?  If so, that would 
mean, I suppose, that such screendumps would have to be moved into 
something else, such as Omnigraffle or Photoshop and then exported to 
png or another bit-mapped graphic.  I hope that's not necessary.  But, 
if it is, is Omnigraffle an appropriate "broker" or would it degrade 
quality?
