Funnily enough, at the moment I'm actively trying to persuade my
employer to get a copy of OmniGraffle (I have a personal copy
which I have used to do some charts for one of the directors).
I was instructed to tell the design and IT departments to buy OG
(design uses Macs, everyone else is on Windows). The IT department
came back with a recommendation to buy Visio (at 5 times the price).
Not very bright, is it?
But if, as you say, "the first priority of IT is risk avoidance"
then people should switch regardless of the cost.
If the first priority is to be cost-effective in spending money,
then I reach the same conclusion.
