Adding images to a rotated shape

how about using layers? put the image/text in a completely transparent
object (no fill, no stroke, no shadow) on a layer different from the
shape so it doesn't rotate with it. move the image over the rotated
object, then merge layers down. i am able to do that using omnigraffle
pro in case that makes any difference.
