Most "universal" type of video file?

I'm working with Apples since late seventies, with Macs since  
1988...and mostly I use Apple software for working...but Safari?  
Camino, Firefox, Omni, iCab, Opera (to name just a few) are a  
reliable replacements.

But I see most Mac users using Safari, b'cause it's already  
installed...    :-)
