passing URL to firefox vi the CLI

I've tried various ways of passing a url from the terminal to firefox,  
but have not stumbled upon the one that works yet.  Anyone have an idea?

/Applications/3rd/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin "url"

didn't work, and neither did it work with firefox-bin
