If the moderator thinks this is OT please tell me.
Four weeks ago my wife and I were involved in a severe car crash that
totaled our Honda Element. We are pretty much okay vut our laptops, a
G4 PPowerbook and a year old MacBook Pro, have been somewhat flakey.
There are unpredictable application failures, refusal to awaken from
sleep, refusal to go to sleep when the lid is closed, etc.
We went to the Genius Bar where I was told that both machines would be
charged the highest-end cost to repair and that since they had been in
an accident the AppleCare warranty on the MBP was, essentially
invalidated.
So I'm wondering what the heck to do. They mostly work but our
confidence in them has markedly declined. I assume I can, in some way,
declare them a loss on oue insurance although I'll have to check with
our agent on how to do this. Waiting for a failure seems like a bad
idea.
How would you proceed? Losing a year od AppleCare is a loss just in itself.
Thankyou.

ps: I have only the best of thoughts about the Element which kept the
people box intact during a 70 mph rollover in which we were airborne.
They may be ugly but some engineers did their work!!!!
