a bunch of weird Finder problems -- please help

Well, we have both been using the same brand of cordless mouse in the  
same room for a few weeks and we have not noticed any odd behavior  
before.  But, in case that was the cause, I have switched back to my  
Apple corded mouse.  Unfortunately, that does not help me figure out  
all the changes that were made to my system.  I would not be  
surprised if I have only noticed the most obvious changes so far.
