I spent three weeks driving the first rented Lada in Leningrad in  
1987, and admired the way it jumped out of potholes in which a  
platoon of short men could have drowned, how it tore its wheels away  
from tramlines in the nick of time, how it attracted the undivided  
attention of the local police like a  Chechen with a missile  
launcher. It was on the whole a much better -- and lighter -- drive  
than the Ferrari in which I once crossed London without ever getting  
out of second gear. On the other hand, I'm no longer quite sure what  
conclusions these facts suggest for the utility of the MBA...
