I fail to understand this idea (in general, I'm not picking on you) that you can't do much work on this machine.

With 2 Gig of RAM and a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor, it's got plenty of power for all sorts of tasks. It's true, the hard drive speed is a drag, but it's hardly enough to render the thing unusable. I wouldn't use it to rip DVDs or perform long simulations. But if I'm using it to work on a paper I'm writing while updating some figures, browsing the web for references, updating some calculations in Numbers and using XCode to tweak the code that runs on the cluster, I expect it to do just fine.

This is a machine for people who spend a lot of time commuting, have a relatively modest number of media files, and don't need to perform many gaming, media, or high-performance computing tasks. I'm seriously thinking about getting one, and I assure you, I'm no PHB.

Still, I'd have been super-duper extra happy if the thing had been the size of the 12-inch iBook. But who knows, maybe it wasn't possible in a case so thin; they might have had to spread things out a little.
