Background hiliting of text in TextEdit

I know what you mean, I've had this happen myself and find it very
annoying. I am not sure how to remove it short of making it plain text
and loosing all formatting and also wish that there was a
straightforward way to fix this. It seems a little funky IMO that
TextEdit supports text highlighting yet gives no user options to
change the highlight color.
