My better half received her MBA earlier this week as an early birthday  
present and I must say that I'm impressed even though my workhorse is  
a most recent model 17" MacBook Pro.

In terms of the hardware, its thin but not in any way flimsy and I'd  
reckon my MBP has more 'give' and 'flex' in the case.

I didn't bother with the DVD drive as in the previous 8 months she had  
used the DVD drive in her white macbook only twice.

It is, frankly, a beautiful machine. And in no way feels like a  
compromise.
