Hi,
I do not know how flexible is a bit inflexible, thus I will describe
how I use SuperDuper! to backup automatically two folders (my data
folder and my scientific articles folder) every other day. The
programs starts on my main laptop, prompts me to mount my home
directory from my Sun E3500 server, mounts it through AppleTalk
(netatalk on the Sun), mounts locally a sparse disk image that is on
my server, and copies the changes I made to the mentioned two folders
to the two folders on the disk image. My home directory on the Sun is
running on mirrored disks with ZFS, thus adding another layer of
safety (or so I believe).
The interface of SupperDuper! to perform these partial backup is a bit
convoluted. However, the program seems to work well and performs
reliably.
Thank you for the heads up regarding rsync. I have currently rsync
3.0.0pre5 but have not tested it for my data backups. I will compile
the newer version and give it a try.
Cordially,
ZP
